We rented a vehicle from your location at Keflavik airport in Iceland. Upon receiving our Duster we immediately noticed a missing hubcap and several major scratches. We asked Mrs. M. Karbowska to come out and look at the vehicle. She immediately took photos of all the areas we mentioned and the license plate. We also noted that the vehicle was manual and not automatic as we had requested, we paid for an extra driver but only one of us could drive manual so we asked Martrtyna to remove the fee for the extra person. She said let’s take care of the pictures first, then I will do it for you.We then noted that the radio was locked and needed a code, she sent us to the garage to get that fixed. We assumed she was uploading the pictures and removing the extra person charge at that point. We then left and within 15-20 minutes two warning lights came on: the low tire pressure and the electronic fault light. We called Sixt right away, and the woman who answered the phone told us to put air in the tires and not to worry about the other light as it just means that the car needs a regular tune-up. We drove the vehicle for our entire vacation in Iceland.
We returned the vehicle on July 11. We were then told that the tire on the vehicle was a spare (it was t just missing a hubcap) and that WE MUST HAVE changed it. The sales person indicated that WE were being charged for a flat tire, AND we were charged for the extra driver because it was never noted on our invoice. We explained what had actually occurred but were told that NO pictures were uploaded, and no file indicated that the previous driver had gotten a flat tire and that we must not be telling the truth!! We asked to speak to the manager who listened then told us they never would have rented a vehicle with a spare tire, and why didn’t WE notice the flat tire in the trunk!! We explained that our previous sales person had taken photos...they said there were none. We asked them to call her and they refused. We asked to see the file from the previous renter, they said it didn’t show a flat tire (they would not show it to us). This made us realize that our vehicle had NEVER been checked in from the previous renter, and now we were paying for their damage and we had driven a vehicle that was unsafe...
Not only was this extremely upsetting and disheartening but the realization that I had been rented an UNSAFE vehicle, was allowed to drive my family of four in a foreign country in a vehicle that was unsafe, and had NOT been INSPECTED BEFORE IT WAS rented to us was horrifying. AND NOW I was being called a liar and being charged for it!! Gutmunder (the manager) was rude, did not care about what we were saying and was unapologetic.
We took a picture of the warning lights when they came on, and we have the time of the phone call we made immediately when the lights came on. Other than that our salesperson had taken the pictures....
Upon entering the office there is a bright orange sign that indicates:
ALL vehicles are inspected for damage: UNTRUE
“If you have any doubt please tell the agent to inspect the car before you leave....”WE DID THIS!
Needless to say, we are extremely upset about the charges and more importantly the lack of safety...and to top it all off we were treated as if we were lying....
